Elongated along the Himalayas, Nepal is a landlocked country with a total land area of 147,181 sq.km.. (56,136 sq.mi.). The country is bordered by the People's Republic of China to the North and the Republic of India to the South, East and West. Its topography varies from the high snow-clad peaks and the mid mountain region with fertile valleys to the southern plains known as Terai. So is the climate ranging from the alpine in the north to hot and humid in the southern plains.
World's highest peak Sagarmatha (Mt. Everest) 8,848 meters (29028 ft.) lies in Nepal. Its capital, Kathmandu, is a valley with pleasant climate.
Nepal is a country of diversity and ambiguity with amazing landscapes and populace. It is known for its mountain ranges and the historically significant religious sites. The influential architectural genius of the past brings alive the culture of Nepal. Thousands of temples and shrines still survive amidst the modern changes. Nepal has stood the test of time in the history and still stands tall as a nation of peace, love and harmony. The people of this country have diverse religious and ethnic backgrounds yet blended perfectly as one community.
The geography of Nepal is blessed with a number of small and large rivers. Three main river systems - Kosi, Gandaki and Karnali originate in the Himalayas, flow southward and empty into the Ganges. Nepal has been a habitat of different rare species of flora and fauna. In order to protect the fragile eco-system, Nepal has set up thirteen national parks and wildlife reserves in different parts of the country.
The Nepalese people have always been preferred to other societies for their simplicity and their prowess for diligent working abilities. They have proved their efficiency in protecting many countries and building great cities. There are numerous cultural and religious festivities celebrated round the year which makes it a land of joy and celebration.
Nepal has its own distinction in becoming the ideal tourist destination of the world perhaps because Nepal is special in every aspect.
Education System of Nepal
After the overthrow of the Rana Regime in 1951, great effort was taken to establish Nepal Education System. National Education Planning Commission was established in 1954, National Education Committee in 1964 and National Education Advisory Board in 1968. All these efforts were undertaken to upgrade Nepal Education System. Education of Nepal has only recently started to develop. Nepal education has suffered a lot during Rana Regime here when education was suppressed and after that Education was given to aristocratic people of the society.New Education System of Nepal was established in 1971. As a part of the five year plan, it was established to address individual needs, needs of society as a whole to mark national development. The main objective of Education system of Nepal was to develop midlevel managers and skilled man power. Universal Primary education with emphasis on Nepali medium was the main agenda. In 1980, there was increase in private schools. Free school education policy and education for all became the slogan in 90's.
Nepal's education system is based on the pattern of United States. It has received much help while forming the curriculum. From Grade 1- 5 is considered primary education while, 6-8 secondary and 9-10 upper secondary. The classes 11 and 12 are together considered higher secondary. A school leaving Certificate is granted to students after passing class ten. Education, Science, Humanities are the streams offered after for Higher Secondary and a certificate is issued after exam. Technical schools are also there.
